How to prepare your home for a deep clean
You don't need to clean before the cleaners come. A few minutes of prep makes sure the time goes to the dust and buildup, not to moving things around.
Preparing your home for a deep clean comes down to one idea: clear the way. A deep clean covers baseboards, doors, blinds, ceiling fans, light fixtures and the edges of every room on top of the regular checklist. All of that goes faster and further when surfaces and floors are reachable. Here is what helps, what doesn't, and what to tell the cleaner ahead of time.
Your deep-clean prep checklist
The day before
- Pick up clothes, toys and papers from floors and furniture
- Clear kitchen counters of loose items so they can be wiped edge to edge
- Put dishes away or in the dishwasher so the sink can be cleaned and sanitized
- Clear bathroom counters and the edge of the tub
- Put away jewelry, cash, papers and anything fragile or valuable
- Make space around baseboards: move small items like shoes, bins and cords

When you request the quote
- Choose deep cleaning and enter your home's details
- Add the inside of the oven or refrigerator if you want them cleaned (they are optional add-ons)
- Mention any natural stone, specialty finishes or delicate surfaces
- Mention pets, so the visit can be planned around them
- If you won't be home, include gate, parking, lockbox or key instructions
- Mention problem spots, such as hard-water spotting on glass and faucets
What you don't need to do
Don't pre-clean. Wiping counters, mopping or scrubbing the shower the night before only takes your time; that is the job you are booking. Don't buy supplies either, because they are provided. The useful prep is about access, not cleanliness.
The one thing that matters most
Clear surfaces. Dusting furniture and wiping counters, tables and bathroom vanities is a big part of every visit, and it can only reach what is not covered.
Planning a deep clean before the holidays
If you want the house ready for guests, book the deep clean a few days ahead rather than the day before. Thanksgiving falls on November 26 this year, so a visit early that week, or the week before, leaves room to reschedule if anything comes up. Choose your preferred day and time in the quote request and Rita confirms it when she follows up.
After the deep clean
A deep clean resets the home. To keep it there, most people switch to regular house cleaning, weekly, biweekly or monthly, which keeps up the dusting, floors, kitchen and bathrooms. Not sure which service you need? Deep cleaning vs regular cleaning compares them item by item.
