Deep cleaning vs regular cleaning: what each includes
The two services side by side, item by item, so you can tell which one your home needs before you ask for a quote.
The difference between deep cleaning and regular cleaning is how far past the everyday surfaces the visit goes. Regular cleaning keeps a home that is already in good shape fresh: dusting, floors, the kitchen and the bathrooms. Deep cleaning includes all of that, then adds the edges and fixtures that collect dust and buildup between visits, such as baseboards, doors, blinds, ceiling fans and light fixtures.
This guide uses the checklists Rita Cleaning Services publishes for its regular house cleaning and deep cleaning, so what you read here is what the visit covers.

What regular cleaning is for
Regular cleaning is routine upkeep. It handles the visible dust, the floors, the kitchen and the bathrooms, the things that make a home feel fresh, without adding deep-clean tasks to every visit. It fits a home that is already maintained and just needs to stay that way.
- You want weekly, biweekly or monthly help
- Your home was deep cleaned recently
- You need a one-time routine clean
- You want the same upkeep on a predictable schedule
What deep cleaning is for

Deep cleaning is a reset. It covers the full regular checklist, then the details that build up slowly and that routine visits leave alone: baseboards, doors, blinds, ceiling fans, light fixtures, cobwebs and the edges of every room.
- Your first professional cleaning
- Coming back to recurring service after a break
- Dust you can see on edges and fixtures
- A seasonal reset or before guests arrive
- A lived-in home that needs detail work
Which one should you book first?
If no one has cleaned the baseboards, fans and fixtures in a while, start with a deep clean. Rita Cleaning Services recommends it for first-time clients and before recurring regular service, so the home starts from a detailed baseline. After that, regular visits can stay focused on keeping it fresh instead of catching up.
If the home is empty because you are moving, neither is the right fit. Move-in and move-out cleaning combines both checklists and adds the inside of cabinets, the refrigerator and the oven. The move-out cleaning checklist explains what renters should plan for.
Getting ready for a first deep clean? How to prepare your home for a deep clean covers the few things worth doing before the visit.
How often should you deep clean?
There is no single right number. Homes with pets, kids, heavy cooking or very hard water build up faster than a quiet one-person apartment. A practical rule: once a deep clean has reset the home, keep it up with regular cleaning, and book another deep clean when the edges and fixtures start to show dust again or before a big event. In parts of Greater Austin with very hard water, mineral spots on fixtures can come back quickly; hard-water spots in Round Rock homes explains why.
